Festival prizes will be awarded in various categories, as
determined by a jury of artistic and industry experts.
ALAN HUNTER
Having made history as the first “vee-jay” to
introduce MTV to television viewers in August of 1981, Alan
Hunter became part of American pop culture during his six
years with the cutting-edge music video channel. Alan helped
make MTV the center of not only the music world, but the entertainment
world as a whole, with his interviews of such celebrities
as Billy Joel, Mick Jagger, Tom Cruise, Robin Williams and
Madonna, just to name a few.
Over the years, Alan has worked extensively for the Fox Network
on pilot shows and weekly programs, and he was also the host
of the Starz network’s reality show, “Looking
for Stars.” Radio listeners may also know Alan as the
voice of Verizon Wireless, and co-host of the “Big 80s”
channel on Sirius Satellite Radio, and co-founder of the Sidewalk
Moving Picture Festival (www.sidewalkfilm.org),
an independent film festival in Birmingham, Alabama. After
more than 10 years, the festival has received critical acclaim
by magazines such as MovieMaker, Filmmaker, and Time.

TERRY SLAUGHTER
Terry Slaughter is President and Executive Creative Director of Slaughter Group, a strategic design and branding firm based in Birmingham, Alabama. Serving national and international clients, the firm’s creative work is continuously recognized by the British Design and Art Director’s Club, the New York Art Director’s Club, Graphis magazine, and Communication Arts magazine. The firm’s work is also on permanent collection in the Library of Congress and the Museum fur Kunst und Gewerbe---Hamburg.
Innovative and creative strategic thinking coupled with world-class design solutions have been the benchmark of Terry’s 30 year career serving a broad range of industries including, banking, utilities, manufacturing, tourism, and film. Slaughter Group is deeply involved in the New Urbanist movement, which seeks to create and support Traditional Neighborhood Developments. Specializing in solutions tailored to each client’s unique brand development needs, the firm has assisted TND clients throughout the U.S., as well as Bermuda, Cayman Islands, and Costa Rica.

Fourteen years ago, while on a mission trip, Terry witnessed firsthand the suffering in the town of Piedras Negras, Mexico. In 2001, he founded El Nidal, an organization that builds houses for Mexico’s impoverished. To date, with the help of Slaughter Group employees, El Nidal is committed to building houses in Piedras Negras.
Slaughter Group also encompasses Simon Cyrene, a non-profit entity that uses design and creativity to improve the lives of people in the Birmingham area and around the world. A current project of Simon Cyrene is a design-oriented revitalization effort in Rosedale, an important historic neighborhood in Homewood, Alabama.
BRETT PHARES
Brett Phares is an emerging artist working in computer visualization and installation, exploring god-like awareness in digital space and blindness in physical experience. His work will be shown at SIGGRAPH-Asia in December, and has shown more recently at Chelsea Art Museum NYC, and Savannah College of Art and Design-Atlanta. With over
18 years in interactive media, he has created innovative advertising and communications for some prominent international brands. Presently Mr. Phares is assistant professor of interactive media/game studies at Marist College. For more information, please visit mrphares.com
LUCIA FISHBURNE
Appointed by Governor Charlie Crist, Lucia Fishburne is Florida’s State Film Commissioner. As Director of the Governor’s Office of Film and Entertainment, Lucia is responsible for leading Florida's efforts to build, expand and retain the film, TV and digital media entertainment industry sector, which is considered a key growth opportunity for the state.
Prior to serving as State Film Commissioner, Lucia served as part of Workforce Florida (the state's workforce policy board) and the Department of Education, where she administered the Florida Institute for Film Education.
Lucia earned a Masters Degree in Marketing Communication from Florida State University and an ABD in Communication Research and Theory. She also achieved APR accreditation; a national accreditation in the Public Relations field.
Prior to graduate school, Lucia toured as a professional musician and performer. Highlights of her creative accomplishments include an original composition featured in the Victor Nunez film, "Ruby in Paradise" (the top film at the 1993 Sundance Film Festival), and Composer/Performer/Producer credits for “Algebra TV," winner of the Milia '95 international multimedia conference in Cannes, France.
WARREN HEATON
Warren Heaton is an award-winning digital media artist, whose
film, video and interactive media projects include such clients
as Adobe, Aquantive Microsoft, Concorde-New Horizons, DirecTV,
Motor Entertainment, OrthoNeutrogena, and Walt Disney Imagineering.
Heaton is a part-time instructor at UCLA Extension's Design
Communication Arts department and adjunct faculty at Santa
Monica College's Academy of Entertainment and Technology.
Warren co-hosts Digital Media Artists Los Angeles (www.dmala.org)
with Ko Maruyama and Tony Romain, and recently collaborated
with SPAN Productions in Venice, California to complete the
independent full-length documentary, "The Hooping Life"
(www.thehoopinglife.com).
